Blog woes...

Charlotte Russe denim jacket, lace skirt, combat boots, vintage scarf, style blogger

Let me start this post by affirming that I genuinely do love blogging.  Really.  I get quite a bit of joy from it.  But (there's always a but...) I am a bit sad.  I used to have really great connections with a number of bloggers, but since I moved to Germany, I've kind of fallen off the wagon.  I try to comment on all sorts of other blogs.  I read what is written (and don't just look at the pictures!!!) and attempt to provide some sort of witty feedback, but 95% of people I try to engage with never reply!

What's up with that?  I try to respond to every comment that is left on a post that isn't a giveaway post AND comment back on the blog of whoever has dropped me a line.  Sometimes I don't get around to doing it until a week or so after the comments have been left, but I really do try to get to it.

... I've even been going back to posts I wrote a year ago, but alas... the reciprocation I am looking for still tends not to occur...

... sad face...

Anyone else experience this?  For real!  I want to be friends!  Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I am traveling and have been traveling for almost a week with wonky internet. I do promise to reply, reciprocate comment on the last few posts as soon as I'm home and have in- wonky internet!

  1. Firstly - lovely outfit, the skirt is amazing!
Second - I feel your pain. It can be hard to reply to everyone, but whenever someone comments on my blog I try to leave them a comment in return. I'm definitely pro-making friends with/staying connected with other bloggers! I hope that this is something that passes for you and you find more friendliness among bloggers in the future :)

    1. I hope we stay in touch! Thank you for your kind words! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way!

  2. I've had several bloggers seemingly 'ignore' my comments as well and some who not only reply but reciprocate. Love it when that happens! I do admit to feeling snubbed by a few where I've made several comments and they all go unacknowledged and for those folks, I no longer visit their sites.

I understand that as a blogger you can't respond to every commenter and I don't expect anything from the really huge blogs but the smaller to mid-sized ones, if you're not responding to your readers, you're just plain rude and you're doing your blog a disservice.

    1. I totally agree. Sometimes it takes me two weeks to comment back, but I always make it happen at some point! I don't understand why people with small/medium-sized blogs don't take the time to comment back and interact!

  3. I sometimes feel the exact same way as you! I put a lot of effort into networking, but I find that a lot of other bloggers don't sometimes. Other times I get a lot of feedback. So it just depends, I guess. FIY I loooove your blog and your posts so don't get discouraged because I'm sure a lot of other people do too :)

  4. Totally! I try to be a good blogger and respond to each and every comment, respond to people's blogs, etc. I just want to be friends with like...everybody. Also, I really love that skirt!

  5. I totally understand! I got so many requests from bloggers on IFB that begged me to comment on their blogs, but rarely would they ever reciprocate. You and one other gal are the only lasting connections from there, and I'll try to comment more! Hope you can do the same :)

  6. Hello! Please don't feel down. I understand what you mean about trying to engage with readers/other bloggers. Sometimes my comments go unanswered, but I try not to take it personally. I enjoy your blog and try to visit weekly. I really like reading about the different places you visit and am so excited that you're living in Germany. Be happy! You have an awesome blog and readers/commenters who enjoy your blog.

    1. I appreciate that so much! I know it is hard to comment on every little thing… I rarely get to everything I wish I could get to, but it is sad when you think you've made these great online relationships with people who disappear after a while!

  7. Hm... I should start replying to comments. Oops!

  8. Believe it or not, that was one (of several) reasons why I put my book blog on hiatus and why I took a break in December on my photography blog. But with the new year looming (sounds a bit ominous, haha) I am going to be back in full blogging swing (first post after the break is actually scheduled for tomorrow ... where does the time go, I mean, I just went on that break yesterday, it seems) and I promised myself to be a better and most of all more communicative blogger. New Year's resolutions and all that *cough*.

As an afterthought - being in Germany now (Guten Morgen, by the way; I happen to live just "around the corner" in Austria) you do have a good excuse, after all you'll be doing a lot of exploring the country, right? Who has time to plonk down in front of the computer when castles and beer gardens beg to be visited ... :-D

    1. Well, hello neighbor! Yes… I'm feeling like I'm about ready to go on a bit of a hiatus, but I love taking outfit photos too much to stop!

  9. Doll, don't feel down. Blogging is not easy. I took a little break and now I have over 400 blog posts to look through. Sometimes you get the people who really want to communicate and others who just want you to leave them a comment, which is pretty annoying sometimes. I always read your posts, sometimes I forget to leave a comment (I have my youngest daughter here at home at the moment and she's wild, haha. So I get distracted easily & forget what I was doing) But, I do always read. Just blog for yourself and the right ones will be here who value real connection. I think a lot of bloggers have felt this at times. All will be ok. I hope you have a gorgeous New Year & your Christmas was bliss xx

    1. Oh goodness! The thing about breaks is that they're great until they end and you realize how much stuff needs to be caught up on! I suppose you are right: the people that want to stay connected will stay connected and I need to take that for what it is! You are a wonderful commenter and I thank you for reading as often as you do!

  11. Love the grey lace of your skirt. And don't feel left out in the cold in Germany. It can be tough staying in communication with everyone through comments. I often forget to click follow comments so don't know when bloggers respond to my comments. Mea culpa!

  13. Hi Signe, great outfit as always! One thing I love about visiting your blog is that you always have such a genuine smile in your photos and look so happy! I know what you mean about people not engaging in conversation and not bothering to reply to a comment you have left on their blog, it's such a shame. I can count on one hand the amount of people I regularly exchange comments with and enjoy interacting with. I hope you have a very Happy New Year and all the best for 2014! xxx

  14. Sorry about the lack of reciprocation on your post! :( I can't imagine why, you're content is great and you have great style! Love the vintage scarf, looks like a piece you could wear with lots of different outfits.

  15. I'm a fairly new blogger since I decided to start back up again in the spring. It took me three years to work up the guts to get back on my blog and it's been a little discouraging at times. I've seen my "numbers" drop this month but that's probably due to the holidays. I read your blog as much as I can between my full time job and full time. The reason why I like yours is because you're always smiling, seriously it's very uplifting to see someone smile as much as you do.

Don't be sad pretty little lady!

    1. Thank you, Monica! It is always happy to be told that I'm doing something right! I do totally get it… I have multiple jobs and know that it is difficult to comment and do everything all the time! I'm just bummed that people that I started out chatting with lots when I first began blogging have disappeared from my life!

  16. Girl friend, I totally understand.. and sometimes it's not the blogger but the comment feed, for instance... I started using Google+ because my readers would get an email when I would reply and I would get notified of comments as well.. however I'm not sure when it happened but I've stopped getting notified of blog comments on my blog! Oh so frustrating... I've considered using another platform since it's not doing what I'd hoped... but for now I'm just trying to remember to check my blog for comments and reply to every single one... I'd love to network and connect more and please reach out! If it does take me a few days to get back to you after you comment you now know why! Happy New Year and stay in touch!

  18. I just came across your blog through Instagram. You are darling. I would love to be your blogger friend ;-) I too feel sad, I write A LOT, but I get a comment like ONCE in a blue moon, but its not about that. I feel that a lot of people read and look but don't let you know. Keep up the good work! www.littlemrspriss.com

  20. Love that skirt! And I feel you, somehow I feel like there's this unwritten rule about having to respond back to every comment, and trust me I do try even if it's a couple of weeks late and I have an insane work schedule but I do try. Maybe it's just a habit I've formed from using livejournal in its heyday. But at the same time, you shouldn't focus on the comments. Sometimes people read, but may have nothing to write down, or don't feel the need to write. Or at least that is what I tell myself. If your web traffic is high and not dropping, then find comfort in knowing that people do love to read your blog but maybe can't comment at the moment. Or maybe it's hard for them to comment on a mobile device.

    1. Gracias! I suppose you may be right. I feel like the majority of comments I get are things in reference to giveaways, but I love to have actual comments that may turn into actual conversations. Mayhaps I'm just asking too much! Ugh!

  22. Yes, I have it happen all the time. And someone else on my twitter feed voiced the same frustration as you. Indeed, the blogs that I tend to go back to and comment are the ones I know the author will reply to me in some ways, be it on the comment or in my blog - of course if there is a response to be had!
    Cute skirt, BTW.
