Here we are… Super Bowl Sunday. Yes. They get to be capitalized because today is the holiest of holy days to an insane majority of Americans. I've got to say that i just don't get it. I read an article last night about the way the Super Bowl would be covered if it took place in another country, and I've got to say that it did ring true for me. Under normal circumstances, I just don't get it.
Why do we gather to consume more junk food than we consume in an entire week, while sporting oversize jerseys, downing brewskis and yelling at the TV screen for upwards of 3 hours? And don't even get me started on advertisers. Shelling out $4 million for 30 seconds of air time? I mean, yeah, sure, the ads are clever and are pretty much the only reason I bother to watch the SB, but $4 MILLION? I'm not going to make that much cash in my entire lifetime!
This year is a bit different. Since I live in a country with a different culture, I'm suddenly feeling a strange desire to gobble hot wings, fill out those silly bracket thinkers, and yell at the telly for the better part of the evening. However, since I'm on another continent, the game doesn't even start until after midnight and I have a 12-hour workday tomorrow… in a wifi-less building… so I won't even get to watch Youtubed ads or performances until Tuesday!
Conundrum Sunday! Guess I'll devote my time to being a blanket mermaid, reading, catching up on my etsy inventory and writing back to my pen pals!
